Finding the right name for a skincare brand is hard. Like, “finding a comfy bra that you don’t want to instantly rip off” kind of hard.
When I first started getting my brand together in 2021, I spent weeks (okay, months and months) brainstorming, scribbling in notebooks, and searching for the perfect name. I wanted something with meaning—something I’d fall in love with. And when Lady Daa Doo came to mind, it felt fun, unique, and a little fancy. Plus, it was personal—Daa Doo had been my childhood nickname, and around 2010, when I was blogging, my pen name became Lady Daa Doo.
The name felt like it could work for my skincare brand, so I ran with it.
But as my business grew, I realised something: Lady Daa Doo was me. It wasn’t really about my customers or the vision I had for my brand. And if I’m being honest, it didn’t land well with others. People would hear the name and say, “What’s that? Doo Daa? Lady Gaga?” And then I’d awkwardly explain how, as a toddler, I couldn’t pronounce “Racheal” and started calling myself “Daa Doo.” Cute? Sure. Marketable? Not so much.
It became clear I needed a name that resonated—not just with me, but with everyone. I wanted something timeless, professional, elegant, and reflective of the brand’s spirit: growth, happiness, and feeling your absolute best.
Cue the naming crisis of 2024.
I stepped back from the business for a bit. Social media? Crickets. Customer interaction? Minimal. My brain hurt from trying to find “the one.” I brainstormed with friends. I hired a creative agency (spoiler: they couldn’t nail it either). Nothing fit.
I finally got it!
Then one morning, at 5 am, coffee in hand and surrounded by my chaotic notes, it hit me like a lightning bolt. The words just appeared in my head: Georgie Bloom.
It felt right. I felt a rush. I fell in love. Could this really be it? I checked the domain name—available. Business registration—available. Serial killers with the same name? None.
This was it!
So, what does Georgie Bloom mean?
I’m a romantic, and it was important the new name had real meaning. Georgie has roots in my story. My journey started on George Street, where I first ignited the dream of building a skincare brand. It’s a nod to that beginning. And Bloom? It’s everything I want my brand to stand for: thriving, growing, and becoming the best version of yourself. It’s about giving yourself the care you need to feel radiant and confident—inside and out.
Changing the name wasn’t easy. It felt like a big leap, but sometimes you have to take risks to bloom. Georgie Bloom isn’t just a name; it’s a celebration of growth, transformation, and bravery. It’s about feeling good in your skin and turning into something blooming beautiful.
To those of you who’ve been with me from the Lady Daa Doo days—thank you. Your support means the world, and I hope you’ll love Georgie Bloom as much as I do. This new chapter feels right, and I’m so excited to share it with you.
